Sacred Vows - Secret Lives

Whatever made me think that people may be leaving Judaism in an effort to find better sex? Who knows?

Jacob,

No one denied that sex *can be* a factor in the reason why someone leaves Judaism. Your contention, however, is that *everyone* who leaves Judaism does so for sex and drugs, which is simply wrong.

I would guess it's about 95%.

Sorry, your conclusion is flawed. Nothing in that CBS report says the people involved are non-believers or Atheists. They're simply lonely Bal-Taaves.

"Some Hasidic men and women are straying far from their beliefs and breaking their marital vows."

It says "beliefs".

JP is so focused on this issue because he just wants to leave so that he can break his marital vows and have better sex. Too bad you cant do that within the confines of your own marriage. Ask your wife to wear a blonde wig.

P, I think you want threesome, including me and my gerbil. No way.

ooooookay, whatever.

I must say, it must be strange to live in your world where everything a person does is ruled by sex.

It's called "America".

Seriously, I've done the research. Click on my links, read my posts. I know what's going on. It's not about Darwin and Wellhausen; it's all about Jenna Jameson and Sasha Grey.

Fair enough. Care to share your research?

If it's on the blog already, can you please post the relevant links here rather than make me hunt for them all over your blog?

Thanks,

I thought sex is supposed to be better in frum families, what with shared values, deeper intimacy due to increased personal respect, taharas mishpacha, halachic requirements of men towards wives, and so on. Perhaps I am relying merely on subjective anecdotal information.

Of course it is. I carefully wrote "people may be leaving Judaism in an effort to find better sex". How many do, I'm not so sure. But they say "The grass is always greener..."

You are TOO funny - posing as a Rabbi and getting people all riled up on the internet. They have a word for you - t-r-o-l-l.

P, "troll" is very subjective. One man's troll is another man's brilliant Philosopher.

Hey, here's a newsflash. Those aren't the people leaving. Those are the people staying.

The people leaving, they have left, they don't look like chassidim, don't act like chassidim and they aren't in the videos and on news reports.

OK, so let me know when CBS does a report about Hasidic Jews discovering Darwin on the Internet and are therefore becoming atheists. That doesn't seem to be the main problem.

You seem to be well aware of the fact that sex sells. Is that not why why you write about it so often? See This it address some of your points.

I'm not selling anything.

Of course you are. You're selling your point of view. Even if you don't get paid for it, the fact of the matter is that you are writing for an audience and want your POV out there for discussion.

My blog is not too erotic, however.

The book is not about "leaving Judasim" It's about escaping from a cult and remaining an MOT (member of the tribe)

Unchosen is about the secret lives of Hasidic rebels.

It's interesting:

Back in my Yeshiva if you asked just about any of the bucherim or rebbeim to name an actual porn-star, they wouldn't even be capable to come up with 1. Yet you seem to be capable of sprouting some off the top of your head like it was nothing. Have you been Chas Veshalom watching porn? (So much for that shotty filter of yours.)

In that question, do I detect some hint of sarcasm and disrespect?
